Bad Breath: The Mysterious Causes

Posted .

Bad breath is a common dental inconvenience that troubles many people in the world today, so if you struggle with bad breath, you’re not alone. Unfortunately, there are many things that can cause bad breath–even things you wouldn’t even think of! So, to help you know a little more about the mysteries of bad breath in Fort Worth, Texas, Dr. Kevin M. Altieri is happy to share some information!

The first mysterious cause of bad breath is alcohol. It can give you more than a hangover; in fact, it can severely dry out your mouth, and dry mouth is one of the leading causes of bad breath. This is because there isn’t saliva to frequently wash the odor-causing bacteria away. They linger in the mouth and cause issues. Spicy foods, caffeinated drinks, and cigarettes can promote bad breath as well. It’s best to limit your consumption and use of these things if you want a fresher breath.

The second mysterious cause of bad breath is a low-carb diet. Eliminating carbohydrates from your diet and boosting your protein intake makes your body burn fat for energy. This creates compounds known as ketones, which promote bad breath. If you want to maintain a pristine breath, chew sugar-free gum regularly while you’re on your diet.

The third mysterious cause of bad breath is the common cold and similar illnesses, like bronchitis. They are likely to cause bad breath because having an airless nasal passage encourages you to breathe through the mouth, which makes it dry. Dry mouth, like mentioned before, is a major cause of dry mouth. If you are sick and sick of your bad breath, get plenty of rest and drink water.
